Built In Refrigerator: Best Looking
Appliances For Your Kitchen Design

A built in refrigerator can give you the awesome look you want for your kitchen as it blends in with the rest of your cabinetry!

Be prepared however, to spend a sizeable difference between it and a regular refrigerator. If you have a generous appliance budget, then it's just a matter of picking out the one that you like the most with the features you need.

Have you ever seen a kitchen where the refrigerator seemed to blend in like it was part of the cabinetry? You were most likely seeing a built in fridge that has wood refrigerator panels attached to the face and a refrigerator cabinet that concealed the sides. built in refrigerator You can have the most built-in look by building the fridge into a cabinet surround making it look like it is part of the cabinetry.

Built in refrigerators look great with this kind of wood finish. If you do get a refrigerator cabinet, you will end up with a full depth cabinet or display niche above the fridge as shown in the photos on this page.

Finishes

These units come in standard colors, stainless steel, and they also have trim kits to accept wood panels as mentioned. A lot of homeowners nowadays are going for the stainless steel look without the wood panels.

To see some of the best built in models that you can get with or without wood panels, click here. You will see a wide selection of stylish built in fridges!

You can even get some models that have glass doors on them so you can see in. Often you will see venting grids at the top unless they are hidden behind a panel as shown in one of the photos. Venting at the top is one of the reasons for the decreased depth of the refrigerator.

Stylish Built in Refrigerator

These sleek and stylish fridges look great anchored into the kitchen layout design. In order to get the shallow depth for these refrigerators, inside depth is given up. That's why many of the units are wider, (most often 48" wide) to make up for lost depth.

To make the 48" wide fridge work, you will have to give up at least 6" in counter and cabinet space since the units are wider then most standard refrigerators. Most regular refrigerators need no more then 42" in width. Keep in mind that you can get 36" and 42" wide built in models that may work fine for your plans.

No More Mystery Food

One of the nice things that you'll notice when you open up a built in refrigerator is that you can easily see to the back. This makes it easier to see food items that you have compared to a regular fridge. No more mystery food that gets lost in the back!

Some homeowners with large usage needs go with two-30" units side by side for a total of 60." This is often put together with one refrigerator-only set next to a freezer-only unit. This provides a huge amount of storage but get pricey! built in refrigerator

These shallow fridges come in three basic styles. You can get freezers on the bottom, a side-by-side, and units that are just freezer or just refrigerators. Today, the side-by-side is the most popular model purchased.

These good-looking built-ins will cost more then a comparable freestanding refrigerator with similar features but you'll be getting a quality product that will give you the style that you want.

Make sure to check for installation charges. Often there will be installation charges to get the unit into your home and set into place. The units are very heavy and are best installed by experienced installers. You will also need someone that is experienced to install optional wood refrigerator panels that come from the cabinetmaker if you want this option.

A Price to Match The Style

The built in refrigerator is still considered a specialty product and makers are asking specialty prices, as mentioned. More and more homeowners though are paying the price to get the built-in look they want.

Several years ago you could only find a few makers that produced built in fridges. Now, many others have entered the market with at least cabinet depth, freestanding models that are made to simulate the built-in look.

If you get one of these freestanding models, you can save money and put it toward something else that is more important to you... For many people, paying the price for a built in refrigerator is not of interest, but for those that want a beautiful seamless look in their kitchen, this may be the perfect fit for your new kitchen design.
