Composite Kitchen Sink: Many Home Remodeling Designer Options
A composite kitchen sink can be a perfect addition for your kitchen remodel project. In the past, a homeowner could choose from a cast iron or stainless sink. Today, the options are almost endless.
Composite sinks have gained in popularity but there are some things you should be aware of before choosing one of them for your
new kitchen design.
The three types of composite sinks you'll find are polyester/acrylic, quartz based, and granite composite. Each of these types of sinks has pros and cons that you should look at when choosing which is best for your needs.
Polyester/Acrylic SinksThe polyester/acrylic composite sink is usually the least expensive of the three types available. The material is not quite as durable as the quartz or granite based composite sinks and because the material is softer and more porous, it is more likely to stain and can be scratched or chipped. When choosing this type of sink for your kitchen, you must decide if it will be strong enough to stand up to your daily use for a long period of time. The two main benefits of this type of sink are the lower cost (depending on the maker and quality) and the glossy finish that is available in a variety of colors. This makes it easy to match it to any décor and it will fit into even low budget makeovers.
Quartz Composite SinksA quartz based composite kitchen sink is made with 70% quartz and 30% resin. This combination gives you a stronger sink and the color goes all the way through making them wear evenly over time. They will hold up to daily use over a longer period of time and the color will not fade. Quartz composite sinks can be found in a variety of color choices and will not stain or discolor like polyester/acrylic sinks can. This version of sink can easily withstand high temperatures from pots and pans that have just come out of the oven or off the stove. You can also clean these sinks without the fear of staining or discoloring. A quartz composite kitchen sink will be more expensive than the polyester/acrylic type, but will likely last longer. A downside to this type of sink is that some of them do not have a glossy appearance like is commonly found with a polyester/acrylic composite.
Granite-Based SinksThe most durable and most expensive composite kitchen sink is the granite based composite sink. Granite has become a popular material for sinks as well as counter tops because of its strength and beauty. Granite composite sinks use a high density of granite rock particles that make them very durable. The granite composite will stand up to heavy use without scratching or chipping. Granite will also not stain or discolor like some sinks, and won't be damaged by high heat. The only drawbacks with choosing a granite composite kitchen sink are the price and the matte finish. Because the price is higher than the other composite options, this may not be a sink for someone that's is working with a tight remodeling budget. The matte finish is not shiny like polyester/acrylic sinks. If you prefer the shiny new look, then this type of sink may not be the right choice for you.
Many ChoicesWhen you shop for your composite kitchen sink, be sure to weigh the pros and cons of each material. All of the sinks listed above are available in single bowl, double bowl, and even some three bowl designs as well as standard bowl and deep bowl depths. Once you have chosen the material you prefer and the bowl shapes and sizes, you can be sure you'll get one of these unique sinks that will work well with your kitchen design.
