Granite Kitchen Countertops Are Right For Me

by Mandy
(Atlanta, GA, USA)

When I bought my home the kitchen was in great condition and very clean, but not my taste at all. There were Formica kitchen counter tops and shaker style kitchen cabinets; builder’s grade. My kitchen had 20 year old laminate kitchen counter tops and I knew I wanted to replace them with granite, as that is my favorite surface material.

First I shopped around at Home Depot and Lowe’s to see which colors I preferred to go with my lighter cabinets. I also shopped around with several different fabricators and warehouses to get the best prices and quality. It started to get a little confusing as to who would do the best job in making my new kitchen counter tops.

I decided to join Angie's List so that I could read reviews about the various companies that made countertops in my area. I was also looking to have other projects completed around my home and knew that Angie's List would be a big help with finding the right people for those projects as well.

Once I found a fabricator/installer I picked out a dark green color (green butterfly it was called) with a slightly beveled edge that they suggested for kitchen counter tops.

The company that I choose through Angie's List installed them for me, and they were excellent; very thorough and precise, they also installed my new undermount kitchen sinks which they had previously cut the holes for.

I would work with them again, and will always choose granite in my future homes. If I need an installation in the future I would save a lot of money by removing the old counters myself and disposing of them. This is fairly easy and saves a lot off the total quote for the install.

Once the kitchen granite countertops were installed, I cleaned them with a granite cleaner and then sealed them with at granite sealer. I do this once a year to prevent staining. Sealing the granite counters is very easy, I just wipe on the sealant with a dry cloth covering the entire surface and I let it dry for about thirty minutes. I have had no stains, no scratches or chips.

I really love my kitchen granite countertops and am happy with my decision to pay the extra money for granite. They are extremely durable and beautiful! I prefer the look of granite to any other counters available including quartz countertops, soapstone, and even limestone countertops. They have such a depth of color and character. I just love them!
