I Love My Open Kitchen Design

by Celia
(Orlando, FL, USA)

If there's one thing a good kitchen needs, it's proper kitchen layout design. As a neat freak and a proponent of kitchen organization, my kitchen is always in great shape, looking clean and ready to use whenever.

My kitchen counter tops are largely open, with only a few select small kitchen appliances and utensils out for instant use. The rest of my kitchen items are organized into various kitchen drawers, shelves, and cabinets. I have used a large appliance garage to hide some of the appliances.

I have come up with some great kitchen storage solutions. Grains in one cupboard, condiments and spices in another. Mixing tools in kitchen drawers and pots and pans in kitchen base cabinets with slide out shelves.

Keeping all relevant items together and in their own spaces maximizes my cooking efficiency and improves the overall kitchen experience. I recently put in kitchen granite countertops, which really makes the kitchen look nice in addition to giving me a better work surface.

We have a kitchen island in the middle of the kitchen which is great for quick meals and having drinks amongst a few people. We also have a breakfast bar, but we rarely use it since we have the island. A little more space would be nice, but overall our kitchen is in the medium to large range.

About three people can be working in different areas, but it becomes crowded when people are moving about in it. My favorite kitchen design element of the space is how it is an open kitchen design, opening up to the breakfast room as well as the formal dining area and living room.

It also opens to the main hallway, meaning the kitchen is easily accessed from the entire first floor! If I could change anything about my kitchen, I would make it larger, especially giving more space around my built in double oven and kitchen sink areas.

I would also minimize the kitchen eating area to allow for more space in the dining room. However, on the whole, I'm lucky to have such a nice, functional kitchen layout design that's great for cooking, hosting, and general enjoyment!
