Kitchen Color Schemes: Bring Your Home And Kitchen Together
Putting together your kitchen color schemes can prove to be an adventure in itself. It is a good idea to choose one of the many
kitchen styles
that works best for your home and use that as the basis for your new kitchen color scheme. Have you thought about the interior that you want to create and looked at the general interior decor of your home? Lets look at some examples. When you are considering color schemes you want to create, realize that each have a slightly different color combination that is used to achieve a certain style. For example, the
old world kitchen
style calls for the primary use of earth tones, whereas a
contemporary kitchen design
focuses on modern colors and often bold accessories.
Dramatic or Subdued Kitchen Color SchemesWhether you are looking to create a dramatic look or one that is subdued, you will accomplish this largely with the combination of color schemes you use. Color combinations are extended from the walls to the cabinets, to flooring, to countertops, appliances and decorative pieces. Kitchen color schemes, that are done correctly, will create an attractive atmosphere in your kitchen and home for family and friends. The colors you choose will affect the overall look of the room and give it its own character and style. Color even has the ability to affect our moods. For instance, have you every walked into, or seen a picture of a bright yellow painted kitchen with white cabinets in a cottage, and simply felt relaxed and happy? That is the result of using the correct color schemes with other well thought out
kitchen decorating ideas.
You are creating a mood or feeling with the color combinations. Before you begin buying gallons of paint however, be sure that you are choosing colors that are in the same color family. Every color that you can get has a base color to start with.
Take purple for instance, you can have a purple that has a blue base, or one that has a red base. The difference is the outcome, either a deeper and darker shade or one that is bright and eye popping. Once you have found your base tone, be sure to stick to it and ask for help from a color specialist if you're having trouble. The one thing you want to avoid is having clashing colors. Buy sample color of paint and apply them in a few different areas of your room. Then live with them for a while and see what you think. Some of the most popular kitchen color schemes are being seen in kitchens across the globe. A couple examples of popular color schemes are gray with deep and rich bold colors, brown with blue-based reds, oranges, and greens, and black and white. Yes, black and white is making its way back into kitchens, but not in the same way as decades ago.
Gray is The New BrownGray is becoming the new brown and is seen in many kitchen styles and newer color schemes. Gray can be easily combined with deep colors such as dark blue and deep red or purple for those that like the brighter colors. Another twist that's easy to do with gray is using kitchen colors that you might be a little too conservative to paint a wall with but instead use as an accent color. An example of this is using a bold shade of orange. If you love the color orange but are just not brave enough to paint your walls orange, consider the following option. Paint your walls gray, put up a backsplash tile, but use tiles that are colored in the orange family as accents. Then, tie in the orange accent tiles with decorative pieces such as bowls, vases, hanging cookware, or picture frames.
Another of the popular kitchen color schemes is browns paired with earth tone combinations. This is especially true with a design that are centered on a warm, cozy atmosphere. In years past the shade of brown that was most readily used was a dark mocha or chocolate. If you have a small space or maybe one without a good deal of natural light, the dark colors would make the area look even smaller. Today,
kitchen decorating themes
include more browns that are lighter shades, like caramel or camel. Even though these color schemes are lighter, they can still be combined with other earth tones such as terracotta or olive green.
Add Flair to Your KitchenBlack and white truly is coming back but with flair. You are not seeing the checkered floor or wall tiles of the past though. These days, black and white is being used like gray is used, in combination with bold or bright colors as accents. Most often, black and white is used in the following way, often in smaller kitchen areas. Walls are painted white to reflect light and create the look of a bigger space. Dark black counters are installed and perhaps even black toe kicks on your cabinets, and either black or stainless steel appliances. Now, add decorative pieces that are red or yellow, or perhaps even a bright green to make it really pop. In essence the kitchen color schemes that you are considering will create an atmosphere and be a direct reflection of you. What would you like your new space to say about you to the people that visit your home? It's up to you and the kitchen color scheme that you've selected to make the finishing touches and pull everything together.
