Love My Kitchen Granite Countertops

by Stephanie
( Quincy, IL, USA)

I decided to do a kitchen remodel to my 30 year old kitchen. One of the first things that caught my interest was the kitchen counter tops. I was flabbergasted by all of the choices of kitchen countertop materials from your basic Formica kitchen counter tops to elegant granite counters.

It was all a little overwhelming, to say the least. One thing that stood out to me at all of the home improvement stores was that they all carried the same basic choices of countertops that you see in everyone's home, whether they were laminate, Corian countertops, or kitchen granite countertops. I decided I wanted my kitchen counter tops to be unique and not the same as every Tom, Dick, and Harry.

So, I went to a specialty store and got to actually choose my slab of granite that had all of the colors I precisely wanted and that went perfect with the rest of my kitchen interior design. I couldn't be happier, I get nothing but compliments on my kitchen counter tops!

Granted, I realize this kind of surface has some upkeep qualities to it and that I need to use granite cleaners and a granite sealer on it every so often, but for the beauty of them, I consider this a small price to pay.

If I had to do this over again, I would definitely go with granite countertops, and have persuaded many of my friends to go the same way. One thing to keep in mind by going the way I did, you get to pick your countertop edges. The only caveat of this, is that the edge profile that I wanted was going to cost more. However, I plan on living in my home for the next 25 years, and find this to be a worthwhile investment. If I was thinking of selling, I likely would have stuck with granite, but leaned more towards stock from a "box store."
