My Simple Kitchen Design

My kitchen is a simple kitchen with lots of light coming in from the kitchen window,(a large double glass window above the stainless sink). I have a U shaped kitchen design where the outside wall, on the left, has a counter depth refrigerator and stove against it and a long 12-foot kitchen peninsula on the right which separates the dining room from the kitchen.
Perpendicular to the stove wall is a wall with a kitchen sink and a window above it, as I mentioned. We also have an attached garage door that leads into the kitchen which is great when bringing in groceries and staying dry when its raining outside.
I love my open kitchen design because of the peninsula and looking out the window at our wooden deck, garden and birdhouse in the backyard. I have about six green plants to the right of my kitchen sink that provide my four cats with lots of oxygen.
Standing in our living room and looking past the dining room into the kitchen with a peninsula separating the dining room from the kitchen makes the kitchen look larger and gives the overall feel of these three areas to be much larger than they are. The open kitchen design makes that whole area seem so warm and inviting.
Kitchen cabinets are abundant, which I really appreciate. There are seven kitchen wall cabinets and an equal amount of kitchen base cabinets on the stove side. I also have a lazy Susan in the corner to the right of the stainless sink. Then there are four large kitchen base cabinets in the peninsula.
We are going to replace the 11-year-old vinyl kitchen flooring with a rust colored ceramic tile flooring. Since the kitchen is a meeting place for my husband and son and four cats, it has weathered 11 years of foot traffic and lots of mud, sand and snow. It's high time to get it replaced.
Also convenient is the basement stairs off of the small foyer from the kitchen. My kitchen layout design is a central point for accessing the basement, garage and dining room. It is the hub of activity!
I love to cook and so I probably spend 50 to 75% of my day in my simple kitchen. While I cook, my cats are watching me (or sleeping) in their baskets on top of the peninsula. So cozy!!
