My wife and I recently built a 2-story home. We had Wausau build the home. Wausau Homes is a pre-manufactured home builder. They aren’t a pre-fab home builder, but rather certain parts of the structure of the home are put together in a factory and then installed on site. These parts included walls and sub-floors.
When we did our kitchen design plans, we began with a desire for stainless steel appliances and mission kitchen cabinets. Since we spent more than we thought on those, we wanted a cheaper yet elegant kitchen countertop. What we chose were laminate kitchen counter tops made by Wilsonart.
They are called Wilsonart HD. Wilsonart HD are laminate kitchen counter tops, but have a textured surface so that they have the look and feel of a natural stone. They provide the look and texture of a more expensive kitchen countertop for a more reasonable price. They have several advantages.
Cost. These Wilsonart HD countertops cost virtually the same amount as normal laminate kitchen counter tops. So because they are reasonable priced, we don't have a lot of money tied up in them. This means that if we want to, down the road, we can upgrade our kitchen counter tops. I, however, don’t see that happening because we are extremely pleased with this Wilsonart HD laminate surface.
Maintenance. Since these are laminate countertops, they can be cleaned with normal cleaning products. Unlike natural stone, they do not require special care or maintenance. This means less time for us when cleaning. These countertops, even though they are the same price as other laminates, even post 3x the wear rating over traditional laminate kitchen counter tops.
We chose to go with these also because of the variety of color choices. We were able to find two colors that perfectly matched the cabinets in the kitchen and in bathrooms. We chose Deepstar Agate for the bathrooms and Luna Crest for the kitchen.
When looking at kitchen counter tops, we considered other materials like slate countertops and quartz countertops. We also looked at kitchen granite countertops. These were all way out of our budget. We thought that we could save some money by going with granite tile countertops but these too were a bit pricey.
We ended up getting the Wilsonart HD laminate kitchen counter tops are very pleased with them. They give us a great look and feel to our new kitchen design and did not break the bank!
